PBL small group feedback

I was looking through the giant pile of papers on my desk and found a stack of feedback from a PBL small group from a couple years ago! Time for some (very delayed) reflection.

There’s a lot of good stuff in here: the first-year med students said I was helpful in keeping the group focused without giving away answers, several appreciated my guidance as a tutor, they felt comfortable asking questions.

Constructive feedback: “perhaps you can emphasize the time limit so we don’t rush through the end of PBL,” “at times, I feel that you are hesitant to answer our questions,” “sometimes you can be quick to correct which discourages me to offer ideas that I’m not certain are correct,” “sometimes it breaks up the flow of the presenter when you interject.”

Oooof. Interrupting is a thing I’ve worked on a ton since this group. I’ve gotten much more comfortable with silence. And asking “why” instead of immediately correcting. I’m glad I found this feedback, but it feels like it’s from a different era!
